Welcome to my new blog! I’m hoping this can be a friendly place where I can share many of the parts of my life as well as posting useful materials for my clients or potential clients to help them on their special events.
So what exactly might you read and see here?
First, you will probably see a LOT of my daughter. You know when you see friends and all they talk about is their kids and you wonder how it can take up that much of their life? I used to think the same until I became one and now I cannot share enough about her. She is my source of my laughter and quite honestly a lot of my tears cause if you’re a parent, you know that having kids is both the best and most frustrating thing in your life, yet you wouldn’t change it for the world. Ain’t she the cutest though!?
Second, because I know you want to know me and not my daughter I will bring you honest material about my highs and lows of being a mother and a parent along with just day to day fun stuff as a family. Activities and outings we may do on the weekends, crafts we make, and who knows, maybe even a favorite easy meal every now and then.
Next, I am a photographer! So I want this to be a place where I can also post useful material for both, clients or potential clients as they plan their special days, plan sessions or other topics that are all around photography based. I will also be blogging my clients sessions for all of you to see which is probably my second favorite thing to share besides my daughter haha!
So how’s all that sound?
Now some of you know me, and some of you don’t so I think I’ll take a little bit of time to introduce myself and tell my story.
My name is Sharon Holck. I am born and raised in Kailua, Hawaii and I have lived in pretty much the same house my whole life minus my time in college. I have a huge love for animals and originally thought I was going to go to school to be a Veterinarian but when I wasn’t able to get my volunteer time when I needed it I decided to go back to the drawing board. I was always into the arts and also loved watching my brother with his camera. So I took my first black and white film class and used my dad’s camera from high school and was just sucked into this beautiful medium.
Half way through my community college career, I decided I wanted to become a photographer. You wouldn’t find me without my camera either at my side or in my bag. I finished up and got an associates degree and a certificate in drawing and painting before transferring to Pratt Institute in New York! What a jump right?!
I moved to New York in the middle of winter and all my friends thought I was crazy for doing it, but these were my best years! In college I focused a lot on film and how it gets effected by different chemicals and alcohol and thinking about how it may give a visual representation to what may be happening in our environment and even within ourselves.
I graduated in May of 2015 and then soon found out I was pregnant with my little December baby Riley. Me and my husband, Tony, made the decision to head back home where I became a stay at home mom for her first year. Now I’m working on building a photography business and serving my clients in such a way to make great relationships and beautiful images everyone will love!
Okay schooling is cool and all but what else about me right?
So I am probably the whitest Hawaiian you’ll ever meet. My dad’s side is more Hawaiian and darker skin but my mom’s side is from Michigan. I look just like my mom down to the light skin and blonde hair. Fun Fact: I have a super long middle Hawaiian name! My grandpa was very inspired at my time of birth and gave me a name that is pretty much a sentence. I won’t say it here cause you know, security but I’ll say it translates to “The rosy glow of the early morning clouds which is a precious gift from God”.
I said I have a huge love for animals. I especially love dogs and puppies and I am totally that person who will go to a party and just play with the dog. I had my favorite childhood pup pass away in 2015 and she was my very best friend. I cannot wait to bring a new doggie into my family for Riley to grow up with. But for now if you ever see me on the street and you’re walking your dog, please invite me to pet it and get some puppy lovin and you’ll be my best friend forever! I also love pet rats and has had 4 of them growing up.
If you were hanging out with me and asked me “Hey what do you want to eat” You will receive a very strong answer of pasta! If I had a choice I would totally eat Mac n Cheese, Alfredo, Manicotti, Baked Ziti or any other kind of pasta for lunch and dinner every day. I don’t get tired of it EVER. And occasionally if we are in town you may also have me begging to go to Curry House so get some Chicken Katsu Curry cause who can deny Curry House?
We are a very nerdy family and you will likely find my husband and I at every single comic book movie premier. We go to almost all the local comic and anime conventions cause we just love meeting our heroes, the atmosphere, and meeting the voices and artists behind the characters, and of course getting all that behind the scenes information.
I dream of going back in New York almost every day. Like I said before, it was a hard decision to come back home. I just loved the atmosphere, the pace, and all the things to explore there. And I cannot forget to mention the food! It’s always going to have a special place in my heart. I hope to one day take Riley there when she’s old enough to really enjoy it. If you haven’t been there, you really need to make it out that way!
I love to travel! If you offer to fly me somewhere I will be there in an instant. I haven’t been many places and I’m sure it’s going to be placed on hold for awhile cause of the little one but I cannot wait to travel again. A few journeys I’ve done is visiting families in the harder parts of Manila, Philippines and seeing how they live and finding how the program Compassion International works with them in making their lives a little easier. I have ridden camels into and camped in the Sahara Desert. I have photographed the Squamish/Hawaiian community in Vancouver, Canada. I took a trip my senior year of high school to Europe and got a sweet taste of many of the countries. But it was such a short and sweet taste that I cannot wait to one day go back there. And last but not least, I’ve done some road trips and trips around the US.
What do I do now?
Well I was a stay at home mom for Riley’s first year. Experiencing all things of being a new mother with a new little minion. I’ve been lucky to see every first accomplishment and watching her grow, having fun photo shoots all along the way. But the need for money happens so I recently started working at a restaurant being a Photo Host. I take pictures of their patrons in the beginning or during their meal, then print of up the pictures to sell at the end of the meal. It can get a bit repetitive but it’s still fun every time I get to see people’s reactions to them. So I do this 3 nights a week, which allows me to still be home with my daughter during the day before my husband takes the night shift and I go to work.
So most of my days involve me going on a early morning walk, breakfast, then watching kid shows while my daughter plays in her play kitchen or with other toys while I also try to convince her that we don’t throw cheerios around the floor. Then It’s naptime for her and work time for me! I try to fit as much blogging and editing as I can during her nap and then I watch some HGTV in the afternoon before I have to go to work. Yup that’s my life.
Well I hope you guys enjoyed reading a little bit more about me and I cannot wait to learn more about you too!
If you have any questions or topic ideas you want me to try cover, please comment below! Also, question of the day, what is your favorite food?
Until next time friends!
